Skimboarding in Argao アルガオのスキムボーディング

As an island in the middle of the Philippines, Cebu has many sea activities that people can do year-round – island hopping, parasailing, windsurfing, kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, free diving, jet skiing, sailing, kiteboarding, wakeboarding, knee boarding, and many others. For this story, we will focus on skimboarding in Argao.

フィリピン中央にある島、セブには一年中できるたくさんの海のアクティビティ、アイランドホッピング・パラセーリング・ウィンドサーフィン・カヤック・スノーケリング・スキューバーダイビング・フリーダイビング・ジェットスキー・セイリング・カイトボーディング・ニーボーディングなどなどがあります。今回はアルガオのスキムボーディングを紹介します。

Argao is a historic town in the southern part of Cebu. It was founded over 400 years ago during the Spanish colonial time but it was already a thriving estuarine community before that.

アルガオはセブ島の南側に位置する歴史あるまちです。400年以上前のスペイン統治時代からありますが、それ以前にも河口のコミュニティがありました。

The economy of Argao revolves around farming, fishing, and tourism.

アルガオの経済は、農業、漁業、観光が中心です。

How did it begin?

Skimboarding in Argao in the early 2000s when a group of tourists left their skimboards with the locals. This sparked an interest in the sport among those that lived in Argao.

アルガオのスキムボーディングは2000年代、観光できたグループが地元の人に残したスキムボードから始まりました。それからアルガオに住む人々の間でこのスポーツへの関心がスタートしました。

From a chance encounter to a home of champions

Today Argao is a place where many people come to skimboard and is also where many tournament champions of the sport are from.

今日アルガオは、たくさんの人々がスキムボードをする場所で、また多くのトーナメントチャンピオンが生まれた場所でもあります。

Skimboarding has also opened the doors for locals to earn livelihood from the sport – by joining competitions, conducting skimboarding tutorials to tourists, and fabricating skimboards to sell to enthusiasts. From a chance encounter to a favorite pastimew, skimboarding has given plenty to this small town.

スキムボーディングは、競技に参加すること・観光客向けスキムボードコース・愛好家に販売するスキムボードの製造などで、地元の人たちにスポーツを通じて生計を立てるドアを開いてくれました。
