Sulawesi【UMITOMACHI Fes】Report

インドネシアは17,000の島々からなる国で、海に囲まれています。海を愛する気持ちをUMITOMACHI “My Neighbor’s Port” は取り戻してくれました。 高層ビルのあるにぎやかな街に住んでいたので、海は背景になってしまい、友人や家族と一緒にリフレッシュするための場所になってました。

UMIOTOMACHIを通して、海とその周辺の環境には、生物の豊かな住処があり、勤労な漁師の生活、さまざまな活動をしている地域社会があることを実感しました。 そして、気仙沼（日本）、セブ（フィリピン）、花蓮（台湾）の各国コーディネーターに、海の美しい可能性を探求する意欲を刺激してくれたことに感謝しなければなりません。

また私にとってUMITOMACHIは、シェフのアルヴィンが彼の素晴らしい海産物の知識、ディルマン氏が海で泳ぐことへの情熱、ダヒーリが 世代を紡む織り物文化の物語、そしてtheory of discouticsのようなバンドが、伝統と歴史を調和のとれたメロディーで私たちにを魅了していったことを通して、インドネシア東部のスラウェシについて深く学ぶきっかけとなりました。 

この5ヶ月の集大成、オンラインイベントの「JOUNEY to UMITOMACHI」ではたくさんのことを学びました。在日フィリピン人シェフのオリビアさんが、インドネシアの特定の地域（私は食べた事がないですが）でも使われている「ココナッツビネガー」を使った料理を披露しました。 台湾のKJは、ビーチで拾ったゴミを楽器に変えて、音楽で楽しむことを教えてくれました。 ペンシーのあゆみさんは、誰もがクリエイティブになれることを教えてくれました。私たちの個々の絵を組み合わせると、美しい一つの絵になります。 UMITOMACHIと同じように、どんなに背景が違っていても一緒に話を共有することで、素晴らしいつながりが生まれます。

Indonesia is an archipelago country home to 17,000 islands, we are surrounded by the sea, and it took Umitomachi, an event titled “My Neighbor’s Port”, to get me back to the love of the sea. Having lived in a busy city with skyscrapers, the sea often became a backdrop, a place to look for to refresh myself with friends and family.

Umitomachi brought me back to appreciate that the sea and the surrounding environment is home to abundance of creatures, the livelihood of hardworking fishermen, and communities doing different activities. And I have to thank each country coordinator from Kesennuma (Japan), Cebu (Philippines), and Hualien (Taiwan) for invigorating the appetite to explore the beautiful potential of the sea.

Umitomachi was also a chance for me to go deeper and learn about Sulawesi, in East of Indonesia, and how chef Alvin shared his enticing seafood knowledge, how Mr. Dirman, shared the driving passion of swimming in the open sea, how Dahri is passing on generational weaving stories, and how a band like theory of discoutics, managed to hypnotize us with the traditions and history in harmonious melody. 

After 5 months, the culmination was an online event “Journey to Umitomachi” which taught us many leanings. Chef Olivia, a Philippine chef based in Japan, showed using “Coconut Vinegar” in her cooking, which was used in certain regions in Indonesia, to which I haven’t tried myself. Taiwan’s KJ, showed us not only about collecting garbage waste but also transforming it musically. Ayumi from pensea showed us anyone can be creative and when our individual drawings are put together it becomes one beautiful portrait. Just as Umitomachi, no matter how different our backgrounds are, when you put us together and share stories, wonderful connections come out of it.
